TOPIC: OBEDIENCE UNTO DEATH
TEXT: Philippians 2:8
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

It is very amazing to know that children are always taught to be obedient to their parent and everyone around them but and if care is not taken, the intensity of this teaching begins to decline as life progresses into adulthood. Then, the law of diminishing returns begin to set in because the benefits that were attached to obedience begins to fade away as God's instructions are gradually ignored.

Jesus as our perfect example came to do the will of the father. It says in Hebrews 10:5-7
5. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
6. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
7. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

Jesus came to do the will of God. He came as a child, lived His life to please God until the time appointed of the father but it took what the Bible refers to obedience unto death even the death of the cross for Him to completely fulfill the volume of the book that was written of Him.

What then is obedience unto death?
1. Obedience unto death is the greatest demonstration of faith that anyone can displace in order to please God at all times.
2. It means to hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all His commandments which He commands on a daily bases.

This subject of obedience unto death is as important as life itself. That's why prophet Samuel said to king Saul in 1 Samuel 15:22  And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

There will always come a time, when your will would be contrary or would want to go contrary to the will of God for you but that's when you must understand that obedience is better. Just like Jesus, that's when you need to say; not my will but thy will be done O God.

The benefits of Jesus' obedience unto death is still speaking today. In fact, it is the only reason for the existence of life because whenever God looks at the world, He ensures that the sacrifice of Jesus' obedience unto death is not wasted and therefore gives more time for the harvest to be brought in.

The good news is that the world has not yet seen what kind of miracles and wonders that God will do with and through a man who will obey Him unto death. Receive grace to obey God and the instructions in His word both today and always in Jesus mighty name. Amen. Jesus is Lord.
